Apple Watch Ultra introduced for athletes

Apple has introduced the eighth generation of its Apple Watch smartwatch. Like its predecessors, the Apple Watch 8 has a sleep tracker, a heart rate monitor, an EKG and a blood oxygen meter. The new temperature sensor is designed to help women monitor their menstrual cycle, in addition to previous cycle tracking. With the help of the sensor, it should be possible to determine the time of ovulation; the clock measures the temperature during the night.

The temperature is displayed on a graph and can be an indication of ovulation. The watch gives the user a message with the probable date of ovulation. According to Apple, a shift in the timing of ovulation can be a sign of other conditions. The data is stored end-to-end encrypted; Users can set which data should be saved.

The Apple Watch 8 can detect a car accident. When detected, the emergency call is automatically notified. Two new sensors are designed to recognize the forces that make up an accident. The gravitational force meter is said to be able to process data four times faster than the sensor before it. Frontal and side collisions as well as overturning of the vehicle are detected. The data is processed with the help of artificial intelligence. The accident detection only works when driving and processes data directly on the watch.

Battery life in normal mode has not improved

The battery of the watch should last 18 hours, inside is the S8 sensor. A new low-power mode should enable a further 36 hours of runtime. Activity tracking and fall detection continue to work, and the always-on display, among other things, is switched off. The Apple Watch 8 is said to enable international roaming with the built-in eSIM.

Apple also introduced a new Apple Watch SE. The clock is made from recycled aluminum. The second generation of the SE can track activities, monitor the heart rate and detect falls and car accidents. The display is 30 percent brighter than the Series 3 and comes with the same S8 sensor as the Apple Watch 8.

For the first time, the Apple Watch is also available in a more robust version for users who do more serious sports. With the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple continues on its way of moving the smartwatch more and more into the sports sector. The manufacturer has already emphasized the fitness functions in recent years.

Apple Watch Ultra made of titanium

The Apple Watch Ultra is made of titanium and is 49 mm in size, the display is the brightest of all Apple Watches to date. An additional button can be assigned an individual function. The watch has a second speaker and three microphones. The Apple Watch Ultra is only available with eSIM. The battery should last 36 hours, in economy mode even 60 hours.

A special watch face can be set to red lighting for better reading in the dark. New bracelets should be suitable, among other things, for users who wear the watch for diving. The Watch Ultra is water resistant to 10 ATM and has a watch face that can be used as a dive computer.

The Apple Watch Ultra is said to have better GPS reception than other smartwatches and to cover the L1 and L5 frequencies. An update is to come later this year that recognizes when users are running on a running track. The watch should withstand temperatures between -20 and +55 degrees. If users need help, an 86 decibel siren can be activated.

The Apple Watch 8 will be available in aluminum and stainless steel. In addition to new standard straps, there are also two new Herm├Ęs straps. The watch costs 500 euros without eSIM function, with eSIM from 620 euros. The watch can be ordered now and is expected to be available from September 16, 2022.

The Apple Watch SE costs 300 euros, with eSIM from 370 euros. The Apple Watch Ultra is the most expensive model in the 8 series: it costs 1,000 euros and will go on sale on September 23, 2022.
