Formerly with a large publisher, today online for CURVED on the road. Loyal iPhone user who doesn't rule out an Android affair.

After a long wait, it's finally here: The iPhone 14 celebrated its premiere at today's Apple event - flanked by the other three devices in the series. Here you can find out what the standard model and the larger iPhone 14 Plus are capable of.

In addition to the iPhone 14 (Plus), Apple has unveiled two new Pro models. You can find out more here: iPhone 14 Pro (Max) presented – the premium hits in detail

Unlike in the past two years, Apple is not providing its 6.1-inch standard model with a smaller, but with a larger device: instead of an iPhone 14 mini, there will be an iPhone 14 Plus in 2022, as previously leaked. The main difference between the 6.7-inch smartphone and the iPhone 14 is its larger screen. But first things first...

iPhone 14 official: What's new and what's not?

The long-predicted elimination of the notch and the 48MP camera have provided the biggest headlines for the iPhone 14 in the past 12 months. However, both are reserved for the Pro models. Of course, the iPhone 14 also has something new to offer, but the difference to the previous model is not that big here.

With notch and improved camera

Visually, it can hardly be distinguished from the iPhone 13. The notch on the front has remained and the camera on the back looks like its predecessor. For this, Apple has screwed on the photo quality of the main lens. The image sensor ( 1.9 μm pixel) is now larger, the lens is brighter (f/1.5) and the low-light performance is 49 percent better. And the ultra wide angle should now take better photos in the dark. Apple showed some sample photos at the keynote:

The TrueDepth camera responsible for Face ID has also received an upgrade and now offers autofocus for the first time. In addition, the performance in the dark has also improved here. So selfie fans have a lot to celebrate. And for amateur directors, there's the new Action Mode, which aims to improve image stabilization while you're moving. Other innovations include accident detection and a satellite-based emergency call function, which will initially be available exclusively in the USA and Canada.

Old chip, old price

Not surprising, but still a bit disappointing, is that the iPhone 14 is powered by a slightly faster version of the A15 Bionic Chip. Because this chip is already used in the iPhone 13. In practice, this will probably not really be noticed either, because the A15 was still considered to be by some distance the fastest smartphone chip and should offer sufficient performance reserves for the foreseeable future.

The iPhone 14 is available in Germany from 999 euros and, unlike in the USA (around 100 euros), it is more expensive than the previous model.

iPhone 14 Plus: From small to big

We in the editorial office would actually have liked an iPhone 14 mini. But apparently more people wanted an affordable big iPhone - and that's exactly what you get with the iPhone 14 Plus. With 6.7 inches, it offers the same screen size as the Pro Max, but is significantly cheaper and available from 1149 euros. In addition to the large Super Retina XDR display, it offers you the best battery life in an iPhone according to the manufacturer. Otherwise, the hardware is apparently identical to that of the iPhone 14. For 150 euros more you get a larger display and better endurance.

iPhone 14 Pro (Max): Here are the really big innovations

Stronger chipset, significantly improved camera and a design without a notch: iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have taken a significantly bigger step forward than the standard model. The gap between the Pro models has probably never been as big as it is in 2022. We will tell you in detail elsewhere why this is the case.
